NEW DELHI: A court here on Saturday remanded two officials of the Delhi Development Authority, who were arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation on Friday for allegedly being hand-in-glove with slum rehabilitation racket kingpin Ashok Malhotra, to seven days in CBI custody. Special Judge S. K. Kaushik remanded DDA Deputy Director Arun Kumar Mishra and Assistant Director Jeet Ram Gaur to CBI custody till August 24. The two have been booked for allegedly colluding with Malhotra in selling plots meant for rehabilitation of slum dwellers at Dheerpur Phase I using fraudulent means. Earlier, seeking remand of the two officers, CBI counsel Mohammad Shakeel told the court that the accused needed to be confronted with voluminous documents seized during the investigations. He also contended that sustained custodial interrogation was required to unearth their alleged nexus with other public servants and to recover more documents. Earlier this month, on August 7, a local court had remanded Malhotra to 14-day custody. The CBI, therefore, would technically have three days to confront Malhotra with the other two officials. Malhotra has been accused of selling plots worth several crores using fraudulent means. He would procure authorisation slips for the plots meant for allotment to slum dwellers whose slums had been demolished and then sell away the plots at exorbitant rates.
