Krishnagiri gets reserve constituency

Krishnagiri: The reorganisation of Assembly constituencies in Krishnagiri district under the delimitation exercise has resulted in a new reserve constituency. Kaveripattinam assembly segment has been eliminated and incorporated with assembly segments of Bargur and Krishnagiri.

Similarly, parts of Assembly segments of Krishnagiri and Hosur have been reorganized to form Veppanapalli which is a new Assembly segment.

Political parties cutting across party lines have welcomed the addition of a reserve constituency for Krishnagiri district.

Though there has been no major resistance or protests from political parties and the public, the geographical extension area after reorganization is very high. For instance the boundary of Veppanapalli which is a new Assembly segment extends from Denkanikottai to Shoolagiri which is more than 60 kms.

The equilibrium between revenue districts and MP and MLA constituencies should be rearranged for coordination and effective delivery of welfare schemes, State Deputy Secretary of Communist Party of India Deva Perinban told The Hindu.

While there are no new additions in Dharmapuri district, the Morapur assembly segment has been reorganized into Pappireddipatti, which is a new assembly segment.

The whole of Dharmapuri district would now form a part of Dharmapuri Lok Sabha constituency, thus ensuring easy administration. Palacode, which is in Dharmapuri district, was till now a part of Krishnagiri Lok Sabha constituency.

Now it is part of Dharmapuri Lok Sabha constituency, a development which has been welcomed by political parties. Similarly, the new assembly segment of Mettur in Salem district has been incorporated in Dharmapuri Lok Sabha constituency.
