PUDUCHERRY: Life Insurance Corporation agents staged a demonstration in front of LIC office here on Saturday in support of their demands including pension for agents attaining the age of 60. The agents, under the banner LIC Agents Organisation of India (LIC AOI), also demanded medical reimbursement for them and their family, special incentives for direct agents, abolition of 15 per cent lapsation criteria, increasing the I-T ceiling to Rs.1 lakh from Rs.60,000, and to include them in the provident fund scheme. The demonstration was part LIC AOI’s nationwide agitation seeking implementation of these measures. LIC AOI is affiliated to the CITU They also sought an allowance of Rs.2,000 to women agents during maternity period, the organisers said. There were about 1,500 agents in Puducherry region alone. Zonal meet of the agents being held in Coimbatore on Saturday would pass a resolution in this regard. The demands would be placed before the Central Government at a later date, they informed.
