Thiruvananthapuram: A final decision on the jurisdiction of the Salem Railway Division will be decided after discussions with the Chief Ministers of Kerala and Tamil Nadu. An assurance to this effect was given by the Union Minister for Railways Lalu Prasad to Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan when the latter contacted him over the telephone to convey Kerala’s concern at the Railway’s decision. Mr. Lalu Prasad said that a decision had been taken earlier to hold discussions with the two Chief Ministers but the discussions were not held. A decision on the jurisdiction of the Salem and Palakkad divisions would be taken only after discussions. The Prime Minister had also called for such a discussion.
