BANGALORE: The Federation of Bar Associations, headed by K.N. Subba Reddy, on Friday urged Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy to amend Section 4 of the Karnataka High Court Act. In a memorandum, Mr. Reddy, who is a former president of the Advocates Association of Bangalore and BJP MLA, said the litigants were put to great hardship as an appeal against a single judge order could be made under Article 226 of the Constitution. The litigants would have to approach the Supreme Court and not many could afford the cost of fighting a case in the Supreme Court, he said. Mr. Reddy said if Section 4 of the High Court Act was amended, appeals against a single judge order (writ petitions) could be heard by a Division Bench. He said Division Benches of the High Court were now refusing to entertain appeals against a single judge order. He said as of now thousands of appeals against a single judge order were being dismissed by Division Benches.
