Manipur MLAs deny harbouring militants

Correspondent

IMPHAL: The Manipur MLAs from whose residences 12 militants were nabbed and weapons and extortion letters seized, in separate statements issued on Saturday, disputed the police claim that the militants were arrested from their residences.

These militants, according to DGP Yumnam Joykumar, were arrested from the residences of Bijoy Koijam, K. Meghachandra and W. Brajabidhu and a former MLA, N. Sovakiran.

In a statement, Bijoy Koijam said the militant of the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak was working as a casual driver in his residence. N. Sovakiran, from whose residence a militant of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) was reportedly arrested, said the charge was baseless. One KCP and one People’s Liberation Army militant were nabbed from the residence of K. Meghachandra.

Police officials maintain that investigations are in progress.
