PSTL is in the process of creating a mega theatre-chain and plans to be present in 1,550 locations across the country with over 2,000 screens by 2010. The company plans to produce and buy 10 Malayalam films each every year. It has secured the national distribution rights of ‘Paradesi,’ featuring Mohanlal. It will also distribute ‘Ram Gopal Varma Ke Aag,’ featuring Amitabh Bachchan and Mohanlal, scheduled for release on August 31. The company aim is to provide wholesome family entertainment. “Kerala is a very important market for the film industry and we are extremely happy to extend out operations here,” Mr. Natarajan said. Managing Director P.S. Saminathan said that PSTL plans to lease around 150 screens in the State and this is expected to improve infrastructure facilities to match international standards. The company will abide by the practices and norms established in the industry. Director N. Narayanan said that the main priorities of PSTL were modernisation of theatres, including setting up of multiplexes, improving distribution and marketing of Malayalam films and popularising the latest technology in film-making. The company was investing in digital technology and developing a network operations centre to convert and deliver digital prints simultaneously to multiple screens.
