Personal enmity during local body election cited as reason
PUDUCHERRRY: Six people, including two policemen, were injured in a group clash at Nallupet in the Thirubhuvanai police station limits on Friday night. The clash broke out between two groups after huts of three Congress workers were burnt. The houses of the Congress workers Natarajan, Devanathan and Kattavaraju were allegedly burnt by the Dravida Munnetra Khazhagam workers at around 9.30 p.m. Two houses were completely gutted, according to the Thirubhuvanai police. The police said as they reached the spot, supporters of Natarajan turned their ire against the policemen. Policemen attacked
A constable and a home guard were attacked with sticks and both sustained head injuries. Four villagers also sustained injuries in stone pelting. Police said they had registered a case of attempt to murder against nine persons. A case was registered against eleven people for burning the huts. According to the police, the clash was not the result of any political fallout. Personal enmity during the local body election allegedly was the reason. About four months ago, the two groups clashed following an argument. All the accused had been absconding and a special team launched a search for them, police said. A posse of policemen had been posted in the area.
