Notice to Q Branch police
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has ordered notice to the Q Branch police on a habeas corpus petition against the grant of five-day police custody for V. Sundaramoorthy, a suspected naxalite.
A Division Bench comprising Justice P.D. Dinakaran and Justice R. Regupathi ordered the notice when the petition filed by Mr. Sundaramoorthy came up for admission on Saturday.
While Mr. Sundaramoorthy was still in judicial custody, he was shown as arrested in connection with a case registered against him in 1992.
On August 16, the Designated Court for TADA cases granted police custody for Mr. Sundaramoorthy for five days.
The present habeas corpus petition is against the TADA court order.
