Coimbatore: A seven-member contingent representing the Asian Motor Racing Club of Sri Lanka has confirmed its participation in the MRF International Challenge, the country’s largest racing event, which begins at the Kari Motor Speedway in Chettipalayam here next weekend. The Lankans have confirmed their entry in the GT category. They will be pitted against popular rally drivers such as Gaurav Gill (current rally champion), Arjun Balu (Coimbatore) and Vikram Mathias and young racing sensation Ashwin Sunder from Chennai, to name a few. For the Lankans, the Kari Motor Speedway is a familiar circuit. They have been here before for the racing school programme, and have even taken part in quite a few races. But, this time around, they will be participating in the saloon cars. “These cars have never been raced in India before. They are going to be a treat to watch. And, the Lankans are sure to give the Indians a run for their money,” said Anthony Rodricks, General Manager Marketing, MRF. Sri Lankan contingent: Aravinda Premadasa (Mitsubishi Evo7), Dinesh Jayawardena (Mitsubishi Evo8), Pasidu Peiris (Mitsubishi Evo9), Reyaz Farook (Mitsubishi Evo7), Janaka Dias (Subaru STI 9), Rizvi Farook (Subaru STI 8) and Shajjad Zuh air (Mitsubishi Evo4). — Sports Reporter
