Chennai: India locks horns with China on the opening day in a Pool ‘B’ encounter of the Asia Cup hockey championship at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium on August 31. Five matches are slated for the day, the first starting at 7.30 a.m. involving Malaysia and Singapore at the YMCA College synthetic turf. Barring Japan, all the 11 teams taking part in the event will be seen in action on the inaugural day. The pools: A: Pakistan, Japan, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Singapore; B: Korea, India, China, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Thailand. The programme: Aug. 31: Malaysia vs. Singapore (YMCA, 7.30 a.m.); Bangladesh vs. Thailand (YMCA, 9.30 a.m.); Korea vs. Sri Lanka (3 p.m.); Pakistan vs. Hong Kong (5 p.m.); India vs. China (7 p.m.); Sept . 1: Korea vs. Thailand (YMCA, 2 p.m.); Malaysia vs. Hong Kong (YMCA, 4 p.m.); Japan vs. Pakistan (3 p.m.); China vs. Bangladesh (5 p.m.); India vs. Sri Lanka (7 p.m.). Sept. 2: Rest day. Sept. 3 : Sri Lanka vs. Bangladesh (7.30 a.m); China vs. Thailand (9.30 a.m.); Japan vs. Hong Kong (3 p.m.); Pakistan vs. Singapore (5 p.m.); India vs. Korea (7 p.m.); Sept. 4: Hong Kong vs. Singapore (3 p.m.); Bangladesh vs .
