NEW DELHI: The former Chief Minister and veteran Congress leader, N.D. Tiwari, was on Sunday appointed Governor of Andhra Pradesh in place of Rameshwar Thakur, who has been shifted to Karnataka. This is the first round of gubernatorial appointments and transfers made after President Pratibha Devisingh Patil assumed office on July 25. Mr. Thakur — who had additional charge of Orissa also — will hold the office for the remainder of his term after Karnataka Governor T. N. Chaturvedi completes his term on Monday. In Orissa, Mr. Thakur will be replaced by the former Rajya Sabha member, Murlidhar Chandrakant Bhandare.
