HYDERABAD: Bharatiya Janata Party State president Bandaru Dattatreya on Sunday appealed to Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy to immediately revoke the decision of renaming of Kukatpally Housing Board Colony as Rajiv Gandhi Housing Board Colony. In an open letter to Dr. Reddy and released to the press, he said the renaming would erode the historical significance of the place. ‘Ridiculous’
He termed ridiculous, the analogy drawn by the Government equating its attempt with renaming of Mumbai and Chennai and said that the latter re-established the historical relevance as against the former. Reflecting on the alleged statement by Minister of Housing Botsa Satyanarayana that they were doing it to impress Sonia Gandhi, Mr. Dattatreya said that even Sonia would not approve of such ‘mania’. He likened the naming spree of the Government with the sycophancy during Indira Gandhi regime. He hoped that good sense would prevail upon the Government to remember Rajiv Gandhi in connection to scientific temper and modernisation and refrain from personalised propaganda.
