Applications invited for scholarships

GULBARGA: The Dr. P.S. Shankar Pratishtan has invited applications from the eligible students pursuing undergraduate courses in medicine in the State for the Dr. P.S. Shankar Medical Student Scholarship and Dr. Indira Veerabhadrappa Medical Student Scholarship carrying a monthly scholarship of Rs. 1,000 each for two students for the MBBS course from the academic year 2007 to 2012.

Secretary of the pratishtan S.S. Hiremath said here on Sunday that so far the pratishtan had been extending the Dr. P.S. Shankar Medical Student Scholarship every year for the past five years and this year one more scholarship had been added by the pratisthan instituted in the name of gynaecologist Dr. Indira Veerabhadrappa.

While the scholarship awarded in the name of Dr. Indira Veerabhadrappa would be limited to the students hailing from the districts of Hyderabad Karnataka region and only the girl students were eligible to claim the scholarship, the Dr. P.S. Shankar Medical Student Scholarship can be claimed by students from all over the State. The criteria for claiming the scholarship was that the student should be from economically poorer sections of society, should hail from a rural area and should have pursued education up to PUC in Kannada.

The pratishtan would provide a monthly scholarship of Rs. 1,000 to the students selected to receive the scholarship for 54 months till the completion of the MBBS course. Students who wish to claim the scholarship should apply with details of marks secured in SSLC and PUC, the ranking in the CET and the medical college where they have obtained admission and the brief history of the family, to S.S.
