INRC: Gaurav Gill wins third leg

BANGALORE: There were no changes in the script in the third event of the Indian National Rally Championship here on Sunday.

After the conclusion of the Super Special Stage — a specially made 2.40 km dirt track — Gaurav Singh Gill wrapped up the title leading by over a minute and ten seconds over Vikram Mathias.

After Saturday’s thrills where there were number of drop-outs, the Super Special Stage proceeded along expected lines.

The flag-off saw 36 cars attempting the stage and all cars finished. One competitor, S. Sujay (car 12) was excluded by the stewards for missing a regroup Time Control.

Gaurav Singh Gill heads the championship table with 48 points with his third straight win.

Gaurav had also won the Kochi and Chikmagalur events.

Amitrajit Ghosh (Saurabh Choudary) who placed fourth in the overall section was a clear winner of the 1400 c section. Amitrajit led by 2 minutes 10 seconds over Shreshta Patil. It was a back-to-back victory for Amitrajit as he had also won the INRC event at Chikmagalur and finished sixth in the overall category there.

Mazeydar Vatcha bagged the Rally Star Cup in the Bosch K-1000 rally. His task was made easier with Chikmagalur’s winner Aravind J missing from the start list.

Rahul Kantharaj coasted to victory in the 1600 cc section. He was the only contestant in the fray, with the rest of the competitors dropping out of the action at the end of the second day. Suresh Rana (HS Bawa) actually led the field in the Gypsy class but was erroneously placed in the second place, thanks to a miscommunication.

Rana completed the super special stage to win in his section from Sandeep Sharma.
