IP college pays a tribute to Benegal
Parul Sharma
NEW DELHI: As an ode to Benegal, the veteran filmmaker who won the Dada Saheb Phalke Award recently, Delhi University’s Indraprastha College for Women has organised a ‘Shyam Benegal Film Screening Week’ as a part of its festival, ‘Parchhaiyan’.
In the section ‘Capturer’, a part of the festival organised by the Film and Photography Club of the College, six of Benegal’s pioneering films are being screened at the college . The festival opened on Sunday.
“The present generation ought to have knowledge of some of Benegal’s early films that are brilliant pieces of work. They know of his recent releases, but his initial films are also a must-watch,” says Manasvini M. Yogi, adviser to the Club.
Apart from screening Benegal’s films, the festival is hosting many inter-college contests including a photography competition. Several renowned photographers and film personalities have been invited to attend the event.
Also to mark World Photography Day on Sunday, the Club members visited Indraprastha Park to click pictures on the theme ‘Nature’.
The photographs will be displayed in the college later.
