“Submit Ranganath Misra Commission report to the Supreme Court”

KANCHEEPURAM: The Diocesan SC/ST/BC Commission, Chengalpattu, has called upon the Union Government to present the Ranganath Misra Commission report to the Supreme Court so as to help early inclusion of Scheduled Caste converted Christians in the list of SCs.
In a memorandum addressed to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, which was released to the press here on Monday by the Committee after presenting a copy to the District Collector, Pardeep Yadav, it was stated that many attempts made in the past to include SCs converted Christians under SCs list have failed. However, Sikh and Buddhist SCs were granted SC status in 1956 and 1990 respectively, and were enjoying the privileges and rights bestowed to the SCs under the Constitution.
Stating that many studies had revealed that conversions had not changed the socio-economic condition of the Dalits, the Committee, headed by Rev.A.Neethinathan of Diocese of Chingleput, pointed out that the Ranganath Misra Commission had affirmed the discrimination faced by Christians of SC origin and recommended that religion should be delinked from caste while deciding the SC status.
