Planting 1,000 saplings

For a green cover: Sapling planting campaign at Thanthai Hans Roever Higher Secondary School, Perambalur.

Under the auspices of the Eco Club of Thanthai Hans Roever Higher Secondary School in Perambalur, a special programme on ‘Planting 1,000 saplings’ at Kaulpalayam near Perambalur was inaugurated by bio-farming activist G. Nammalwar recently. Chairman of Roever Educational and Social Welfare Institutions K. Varadarajan presided over the function. Headmaster P. Muthukrishnan and club secretary A.M. Vijai Rathinasamy spoke on the club’s activities.

Mr. Nammalwar said Cuba was a forerunner in implementing bio-farming techniques.

The educational syllabi in the country should incorporate lessons on bio-farming strategy. Later, he answered queries put by students.

Free eye camp

More than five hundred persons, including school children and women, benefited at the free eye camp conducted by the Sharmila Goddess Seaside Mission Matriculation Higher Secondary School at Porayar in Nagapattinam district last week. K. Pandiarajan, Principal, said the camp was organised in coordination with the Lions Club to mark the 60th anniversary of India’s freedom. About 40 persons were referred to Arvind Eye Hospital in Madurai for further treatment.

Association inaugurated

The activities of the Tamil Literary Association of the Nivedha Matriculation Higher Secondary School at Porayar in Nagapattinam district were inaugurated last week. Prof. K. Sumathi of Department of Tamil, A.V.C.College, Mayiladuthurai, who inaugurated the association delivered a special lecture on `Paravaiyin Paadhai’. Nivedha M. Murugan, correspondent of the school who presided highlighted the achievements of the school.
