Tamil Nadu
The crew in private buses create temporary seats near the front view glass panel and upon the engine bonnet near the driver by providing cushion and potable seats to accommodate a few more passengers. As these passengers sit facing each other they start interacting, thereby distracting the attention of the driver which is very risky for safe driving. It is high time these unauthorised seating arrangements are removed before it is too late. M. S. Raghavan Dindigul Reduce guideline value for registration
It is surprising that the Tamil Nadu Government increased the Guideline Value of Registration Department for properties with effect from 1.8.2007 ranging from three to twenty-five times. Nobody could guess the basic reason for such an exorbitant value of properties. It is purely with a profit-making notion that the Government chose to revise the value so steeply. Is it registration fees plus stamp duty or imposing a fine on innocent public for no fault of theirs? By such unparallel upward revision, the Government acts as a tool for price inflation. I appeal to the Chief Minister to reconsider and bring down the value of properties for registration purpose. Asmabagh Anvardeen Ramanathapuram Expedite cheque collection
In the recent years, the banking system has progressed by leaps and bounds. But, in one aspect, collection of outstation cheques, there seems to be no improvement at all. As in the past, the time taken to collect and credit outstation cheques is a week and more. This, when the bank commission and collection charges have been hiked to abnormal and unreasonable levels. People in big cities are not much affected as almost all banks have their branches there. It is the ordinary people residing in small towns and villages who are hit because there may be only a bank or two in such areas. It is hoped, before long, the banking sector will put in operation, a new mechanism for collecting outstation cheques with less delay for less charges too. G. K. S. Kandasubramanian Sivaganga Change train timings
I welcome the operation of train service between Manamadurai–Rameswaram in broad gauge section. The train between Rameswaram–Chennai via Madurai depart at 10.30 p.m at Rameswaram and reach Chennai the next morning at 11.15 a.m. This time is not favourable to all commuters. Will the authorities advance the departure to 4 p.m at Rameswaram for the convenience of the public? V. Rajendran Paramakudi Construct rest rooms in bus stands
In view of increasing enthusiasm for bus travel, the facility of retiring rooms for the passengers who travel at night, should be considered. At present, the waiting passengers in the wee hours have to seek rented lodging just for 4 or 5 hours. It is impossible for many senior citizens, middle class and low income group of passengers to afford a high fare for staying in the lodges outside the bus-stand. A vast retiring room or a comfortable lodging facility should be provided for women passengers and old people. So a lodging facility of normal rate just for 3 or 4 hours is an urgent need of the bus passengers especially at Chennai and the various pilgrim centres of the State. M. S. Sankaran Palani
