CHENNAI: A 32-year-old woman and her two children were burnt to death following an LPG cylinder burst at their house in Porur on Monday. The woman’s husband suffered burns and is undergoing treatment at a government hospital. Police identified the couple as Somasundaram alias Raju (40) and Geetha (32) and their children Raghav (10) and Renu (4) who studied in class five and LKG. They resided on Ramamurthy Avenue in Shakti Nagar, Porur. Preliminary investigations with some neighbours suggested that the family had been to a relative’s house in Ambattur and returned on Sunday night. On Monday morning, a noise similar to that during explosions was heard from the house. The neighbours immediately informed the police, who came to the house and broke open the door. While the two children were found dead, Geetha was declared “brought dead” at the hospital. Raju had been admitted to Kilpauk Medical College Hospital, a police official said. Police said that Raju was working in a flour mill in West Mambalam. A case of unnatural death has been registered at the SRMC police station, Porur. The bodies were sent for post-mortem. A senior police officer said the cause of the death was not known immediately. The LPG cylinder was in the bedroom. Further investigation is on, he added.
