Ammunition seized after quizzing of naxal
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI: The ‘Q’ branch of the State police has seized six rounds of ammunition of .303 rifles and nine cartridges of breech-loaders after the interrogation of Sundaramoorthy, State secretary of the CPI (Maoists).
Sundaramoorthy, arrested in the wake of the detection of a naxalite arms training camp at Murugan Malai near Periyakulam, was taken into police custody in connection with a TADA case relating to the blasting of a rail track at Dharmapuri in 1992. During the interrogation, the ammunition was seized from a forest area at Mookanur Malai in Dharmapuri district, Superintendent of Police M. Ashok Kumar said.
Investigation also revealed that Mr. Sundaramoorthy had visited Murugan Malai by identifying himself as Sankar.
Mr. Ashok Kumar said it now emerged that three .303 rifles seized soon after the planned camp at Murugan Malai came to light belonged to the police of Koraput, Orissa. Initial information was that the rifles were part of the arms taken away by naxalites during a raid in February 2004. Sundaramoorthy, who was sent to police custody on August 16 by a Special Court for TADA Cases here, was produced before the court on Monday.
Special Judge T.Ramasamy remanded him to judicial custody till September 12.
