Ramesh hits hundred

VIJAYAWADA: A fine century by Ch. Ramesh (123) of Arjun XI helped his team finish the second day with 222 for two in the second innings against Praveen XI in the three-day ACA Central Zone Ranji selection match at the IGMC Stadium here on Monday.

Earlier, Arjun XI took a 13-run lead by bundling out Praveen XI for 159.

The scores: Arjun XI 172 & 222 for two in 55 overs (Ch. Ramesh 123, Chidambareswara Rao 82) vs. Praveen XI 159 in 58 overs (A.G. Praveen 45, Lenin 40, Satish five for 10).

Selection trials

Guntur District Sports Authority will conduct selection trials for rural games for boys and girls (u-16) and women in athletics, football (boys), kho-kho, kabaddi, basketball (women), badminton, table tennis, lawn tennis and swimming (women) from August 22 to 24 at the B.R. Stadium at 8 a.m. Boys and girls born on or after 31-12-1990 are eligible for participation in u-16 trials. Players should report to District Sports Development Officer Kotam Raju on August 22. District Collector Mohammad Ali Rafath will inaugurate the trials.

Krishna District Judo Association will conduct trials to select the district junior teams on August 27 at the IGMC stadium to participate in the junior State championship to be held at Warangal from September 5 to 7. For details, contact N. Venkat at 93462 07999. — Sports Reporter
