Doctor sews up ‘ailing’ road

For K.R. Rajesh, consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in Cosmopolitan Hospital, the road in front of the hospital building was always a worrisome sight — personally and professionally. On this Independence Day he decided to do something about it. Gathering some of his co-workers the surgeon decided to ‘patch up’ the potholes on this busy stretch of road. Out came the wheel barrows, shovels and pickaxes and the staff — some had stayed back after night dut y and others who had taken leave that day. ‘Operation Pothole’ that began at 7 a.m. lasted two hours. When the last ‘suture’ was in place the road indeed looked much ‘fitter.’

According to Dr. Rajesh, an Advisory Board Member of the World Road Safety Partnership, it is better to prevent accidents than showing concern after one has happened.
