‘Join hands to improve district’s share of GDP’

Staff Reporter

SALEM: Industries should come together and put in more efforts to improve the contribution of Salem district to the State’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), said Gopal Srinivasan, Confederation of Indian Industry Tamil Nadu State Council chairman.

Participating at a meeting on road show on CII services held here on Tuesday, he said that the district’s contribution to the State GDP remained poor. The industries in the district should make efforts to achieve at least 9 per cent to 10 per cent growth.

He said that the agro-based industries have great potential for growth in the district. The industrial development required better connectivity, he added.

Mr. Srinivasan called upon the industries to make use of the services offered by the CII.

He said that balanced regional development, core infrastructure development, sustainability of agro-business economy, higher education and employability were some of the key areas required more attention.
