Fiery protest: AIDWA activists burning an effigy of the State Government in Anantapur on Tuesday protesting against rape of tribal women in Visakhapatnam district.
ANANTAPUR: The All-India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) on Tuesday took out a procession and burnt an effigy of the State Government to protest against the alleged rape of 11 tribal women by Greyhounds police in Surmati gram panchayat of G. Madugula mandal in Visakahapatnam district on Monday. Condemning the incident, AIDWA leaders -- D. Dilshad and V. Savithri – accused the police of acting barbarically. Not sparing even a month-old post-natal woman indicated the cops’ barbarism, they said. Though the victims took their experience to the notice of officials, the latter did not send them for medical check-up with a view to saving the police, the AIDWA leaders alleged. They charged top police officials with trying to save the policemen involved in the crime. The Government’s sincerity towards women was also exposed by its cold response.
