KSEB staff oppose land transfer

KOCHI: The Kerala Electricity Employees’ Confederation will oppose the move to hand over 100 acres of land (1 acre = 0.4 hectare) of the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) for the Smart City project.

The confederation, affiliated to the Indian National Trade Union Congress, will take out a protest march to the site on September 5. Its members will go on a fast in front of the Brahmapuram diesel power project the same day.

At a press conference here on Tuesday, the confederation’s general secretary, Sajeev Janardanan, alleged corruption behind the deal and demanded an inquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation. He said the land, originally meant for the diesel power project, was estimated at Rs. 350 crore. The Government was intending to hand it over at Rs. 7.57 crore. Its current value was over Rs. 3 lakh a cent.

He said the Government had ignored the Board’s plea for at least Rs. 100 crore for the land.
