This Day That Age
The Rs. 2.5-crore scheme of the Southern Railway for converting the metre gauge track into broad gauge line between Gudur and Renigunta, a length of 52 miles, has been completed. The line will be opened for traffic on August 23. The first broad gauge passenger train will start from Gudur on the forenoon of August 23, 1957. The conversion of this section to broad gauge will enable goods traffic on the north-east line bound for stations on the south metre gauge region of this railway and vice-versa to be diverted via Arkonam Junction from Gudur section.
