Round the clock vigil is being kept all along the 26-mile Dowlaishwaram-Purushottapatnam river bund as the level of the Godavari is rising rapidly hour by hour. While the level over the crest of the anicut at Dowlaishwaram rose to 12.8 feet by 10 a.m. on August 21, the level of water at the Godavari bridge crossed the 58.5-foot mark. The engineering staff are piloting every train both from Godavari and Kovvur ends. Ferry service on the Godavari has been ordered to be cancelled by the Conservator at Dowlaishwaram.
