No question of government falling, says Biman Bose

Rules out possibility of mid-term elections Discussions demanded under Rule 193
KOLKATA: “Rule 193 [under which discussions on the India-U.S. civilian nuclear deal are expected to be held in Parliament] has no provision for voting; so the question of the United Progressive Alliance government falling does not arise,” Biman Bose, secretary of the West Bengal Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), said here on Tuesday.
“We have demanded discussions under Rule 193 and if they are taken up there will be no vote; so where is the question of the UPA government falling?” he asked.
On the chances of mid-term elections in the wake of the controversy over the 123 agreement, Mr. Bose, who is a member of the CPI(M) Polit Bureau, said: “It may not happen.”
He will be attending the two-day emergent central committee meeting of the party to be held in New Delhi from Wednesday.
When journalists pointed out that the UPA government would be reduced to a minority if the Left parties withdrew support to it, Mr. Bose said: “Such matters will have to be discussed.”
