NEW DELHI: Bharatiya Janata Party president Rajnath Singh began here on Tuesday an exercise to strengthen the party organisation at the booth-level in every State. The first in a series of planned meetings was on Madhya Pradesh. Chief Minister Shivraj Chauhan, the general secretary organisation of the party State unit, all party MPs, the general secretary organisation at the central level, leaders of the Opposition and their deputies were invited. Leader of the Opposition L.K. Advani could not attend because of prior engagements, but party sources said he would be attending the subsequent meetings on Rajasthan and Gujarat over the next few days. The target
The programme to strengthen the party right down to the booth-level was taken up in right earnest after the party’s humiliating defeat in the Uttar Pradesh assembly polls. The target is to have a team of 10 to 12 dedicated party workers for every booth covering roughly 1,000 voters. Team’s task
This team would have the task of ensuring that the party’s supporters come out on polling day to cast their vote. The meeting took place at the residence of Mr. Rajnath Singh. The discussions extended to late evening over dinner. Larger States first
The party plans are to take up the larger States where it is ruling initially and pay attention to those where elections are due later this year (Gujarat) and next year (Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi).
