Nirupam Sen
Kolkata: The West Bengal government is working on consensus-building involving all political parties for the purposes of development and setting up industries in the State, the State’s Industries Minister, Nirupam Sen, said here on Tuesday. With this in mind Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, who had sought the views of all political parties for the proposed chemical hub in the State, would be shortly holding an all-party meeting to discuss the matter. Initially proposed to be set up in the Nandigram area of the State’s Purbo Medinipur district, the government decided against setting up the chemical hub in the area in the face of violent protests against the project by a section of the local people. Subsequently Mr Bhattacharjee had written to all political parties informing them of the government’s plans for setting up the project. Mr Sen also said that the government will welcome suggestions from the Assembly Standing Committee on Industry in the framing of a comprehensive package for compensation to as well as rehabilitation of those parting with their land. The Standing Committee which has expressed concern over the acquisition of farmland for industry met during the day.
