NEW DELHI: Defending champions Petroleum and Railways head the field in the men’s and women’s team events respectively in the 37th all-India inter-institutional table tennis championship to be played at the Siri Fort Sports Complex here from August 24 to 28. Twenty teams have been divided into four groups in the men’s section. After the league, two teams from each group will qualify for the knock-out phase. In the women’s category, nine teams divided into two groups will battle in the league. Thereafter, two teams from each group will move into the semifinals. The individual events will start on August 26. The groupings: Men: Group ‘A’: Petroleum, Banks Sports Board, Defence Accounts, Reserve Bank of India, State Bank of Indore. Group ‘B’: Railways, Canara Bank, Major Ports, Steel Plants, Electr icity Board. Group ‘C’: Air-India, LIC, Ordinance Factory, Coal India, Food Corporation of India. Group ‘D’: Bharat Sanchar, Postal, Indian Audit, Indian Air Force, Indian Airlines. Women: Group ‘A’: Railways, Air-India, Postal, Indian Audit.
