BANGALORE: Beach volleyball will never be the same in the country thanks to a National-level initiative by Beyond Thought Marketing Pvt. Ltd., which is all set to introduce a new concept called ‘Volleigirl’ with technical support from the Volleyball Federation of India (VFI) from next month. Mohak Gupta, Director, BTMS, in a chat with The Hindu said here that beach volleyball, which is hugely popular across the globe, will assume a new role as an important women’s sport. “We are willing to provide that with the support of VFI and create the right platform for the game to take off in the country,” he said. To begin with, a talent pool of 80 girls will be identified with selection trials across the country, which will be later shortlisted to 24. The 24 players will participate in the National beach volleyball championship to be held in Goa in September. They would also get an intensive training for 30 to 40 days and under the guidance of reputed coaches. And finally, out of the 24, the four best players will be selected for advanced training. The four, who will be called Volleigirls of the season, will be taken to international circuit events. — Special Correspondent
