CHANDIGARH: Setting a deadline of one month for improving the basic civic amenities in Bapu Dham Colony, Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator S. F. Rodrigues on Tuesday directed the Chandigarh Administration to ensure tapped water supply, proper sewerage by removing encroachments from drains, repair of pavements, streets and internal roads and to regulate the power supply system. He directed the officers to make this a model of urban transformation, to be replicated in the other resettlement colonies in the Union Territory. Accompanied by his wife, Gen Rodrigues went round the colony, took stock of the problem areas and expressed his anguish over the poor sanitary and living conditions. He directed Chandigarh Home Secretary Krishna Mohan, Municipal Commissioner P.S. Aujla and Deputy Commissioner R.K. Rao to make an in-depth study of the problems and find appropriate answers urgently. He said he would visit the colony after a month to review the situation. He also urged the area councillor and other colony leaders to help in remodelling Bapu Dham Colony and to take a role in checking unauthorised structures . He also visited the Government High School in the colony and asked the Home Secretary and the school management to take urgent steps to improve the infrastructure.
