Court quashes kidnap case
Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday quashed an FIR against a 21-year-old man accusing him of kidnapping and forcing a minor girl to marry him and allowed the couple to live together. It also held that the girl was nearing adulthood and could take care of the obligations of a married life.
The young man, Pawan Kumar, had sought quashing of the FIR as well as handing over his 17-year-old wife to him. A trial court here had sent her to a Nari Niketan, pronouncing her a minor.
The FIR was lodged by the girl’s father with the Prasad Nagar police station in Central Delhi following her elopement with Pawan Kumar and later marrying him in June this year, alleging that Pawan had kidnapped his minor daughter.
The police had arrested the young man and a Metropolitan Magistrate court had remanded him to judicial custody.
