JAIPUR: A surprise raid at a godown of a handling agent of the mid-day meal scheme at Virat Nagar in Jaipur district on Tuesday found 287 quintals of wheat and 68 quintals of rice missing. The food grain was not sent either to the schools for preparing meals to be served to children. Virat Nagar Sub-Divisional Magistrate and the Tehsildar conducted the raid at the stock room situated in Kraya Vikraya Cooperative Society’s office near the bus stand in the town on receiving complaints from schools in the region that the quantity of material supplied had come down over the past few days. Jaipur Collector Akhil Arora said a first information report against the handling agent, Kana Ram, had been registered at the Virat Nagar police station. A scrutiny of the food grain stockpiled at the godown revealed that its quantity had reduced even though it was not supplied to the schools. Mr. Arora said the district administration had entrusted the responsibility to deliver wheat and rice for the mid-day meal scheme in the Virat Nagar panchayat samiti area to Shahpura-based Kraya Vikraya Cooperative Society, which gets food grain directly from the Food Corporation of India. The cooperative society had appointed Kana Ram as its handling agent in August last year.
