Officials told to launch a drive against adulteration of foodstuffs Focus on coordination between administrative officials and law enforcing agencies
LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Mayawati, will conduct surprise inspection from September onwards to assess the quality of development works in the State and to find out whether the benefits percolated down to the beneficiaries. Henceforth, development review meetings will be held every month at the district, divisional commissionary and State levels. Besides, the Chief Minister directed the officials to launch a drive against the adulteration of foodstuffs and the racket in fake medicines. Ms. Mayawati was of the view that the twin menace should be curbed at all costs and the culprits brought to book as the life of the people was endangered. Ms. Mayawati, who completes 100 days in office on Wednesday, told officials present in the development review meeting here on Tuesday that they have to ensure the implementation of the Bahujan Samaj Party Government’s welfare schemes for Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes, OBCs, religious minorities and the poor among the Forward Castes. Official sources said that the Chief Minister stressed upon the coordination between the administrative officials and law enforcing agencies for the proper implementation of the schemes. She said these schemes must be implemented in true spirit. At times the implementation of development schemes, like the availability of drinking water, created law and order problem, which can only be arrested through a coordinated effort, she emphasised. The Chief Minister gave strict instructions for the completion of the unfinished works in the Ambedkar villages. She further directed the District Magistrates to select five Gaon Sabhas from each of the 403 Assembly constituencies, which totalled 2015 Gaon Sabhas, under the Ambedkar Gram Sabha Scheme for their phase-wise development. The officials were asked to accord top priority to Ambedkar Village Scheme, health, education, employment generation and rural employment, social sector schemes and infrastructure development. Sources said since power was a critical input in the rural areas, the Chief Minister warned the officials that in case of power theft the official under whose jurisdiction the theft is detected will also be held accountable. She said power supply as per the roster schedule must be ensured in the rural areas. The monthly review meetings would be conducted at the district level by the District Magistrates, at the commissionary level by the Divisional Commissioners and at the State level by the Secretaries and Principal Secretaries of the departments concerned.
