NEW ARRIVALS: Two of the 14 services launched on Tuesday.
CHENNAI: The Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) on Tuesday introduced 14 new services, including 12 from the fast developing Velachery, to distant places in and around the city. Transport Minister K.N. Nehru flagged off the services at a function held in the Vijayanagar bus terminus in Velachery. While 11 of the services would be operated from the Vijayanagar terminus, 9-M Extension would run between AGS Staff Colony and High Court via Saidapet and Anna Salai. The H-51 Extension service would be operated from Indra Nagar in Chitlapakkam to High Court through Camp Road, Velachery, Taramani, Tiruvanmiyur and Chepauk. The M-51A service would run between Tambaram East and Agaramthen via Camp Road, Balaji Nagar and Meppedu. The 11 services from Vijayanagar terminus are: 54-R (to Vellavedu); 23-V (Villivakkam), 569 (Tiruporur), 589 (Mamallapuram), D-170 (Tiruverkadu), 552 (Maraimalainagar), B-21 (Korukkupet), 129 (to Manali), R-70 (Red Hills), G-11 (Kannadasan Nagar) and 370 (Pattabiram). Deluxe services
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Nehru allayed fears about the MTC resorting to an indirect increase in fares by promoting the deluxe buses. He said that only 12 per cent of the corporation’s services were of “deluxe” variety.
