Acquisition of “bhoomidhan” lands opposed
Staff Reporter
KANCHEEPURAM: Beneficiaries of “bhoomidhan” scheme have opposed acquisition of their lands by the State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamilnadu for its Oragadam Industrial Estate project.
Memorandum
In a memorandum presented to the Collector, Pradeep Yadav, here on Monday, the 13 beneficiaries (who have floated a movement to regain their land) have stated that around 30 acres and 40 cent of land in Chennakuppam was allotted to poor ryots under “Bhoomidhan” movement in 1959. The district administration issued orders in 1996 confirming that these lands come under the classification of “Bhoomidhan” category.
Hence, the ryots urged the State Government to reconsider its decision to acquire “Bhoomidhan” lands for setting up industrial park at Oragadam-Chennakuppam area.
Meanwhile, villagers of Oragadam-Chennakuppam have opposed the move to help SIPCOT acquire lands encompassing drinking water resources and public utility facilities in the village for setting up of industrial units.
