Work on sea walls to be completed by September

BULWARK: Work on building a rubble-mound sea wall in progress near the mouth of the Cauvery in Poompuhar.
CHENNAI: Construction of rubble-mound sea walls is under way on four sites in Nagapattinam district.
Work on in Poompuhar, Tranquebar, Velankanni and Vedaranyam at a cost of Rs.7 crore will be completed by September 30. The sites, among the worst hit during the December 2004 tsunami, have been facing coastal erosion. As fishermen inhabit the areas, the Public Works Department has taken up the task of building the walls, according to a senior official.
Plan awaits nod
A proposal to build a wall in Kaduvaiyar at a cost of Rs.3.2 crore is awaiting the approval of authorities, the official added.
