India takes up attack with Germany
Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI: India has formally taken up with Germany the alleged racist attack on eight Indians in an east German village earlier this week. “We have taken up the matter with the German government and have requested that the authorities take action to address this issue and prevent future incidents of the kind,” said an External Affairs Ministry spokesperson.
He said the German government had conveyed that it condemned the violence in the “strongest possible terms” and informed that its Prosecuting Attorney’s office has started its investigations into the incident so that the culprits are called to account. The Indian Embassy in Berlin is in the process of getting in touch with the victims of the attack.
India took up the issue after the German media reported the attack by 50 locals in a village in Saxony province. The reports said there was scuffle on the dance floor and as the Indians began getting outnumbered, they rushed to a food outlet run by another Indian. However, the mob forced open the doors of the building and roughed them up.
