New chapter in ties

Antara Das

Kolkata: When the Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe inaugurates the Rabindra-Okakura Bhavan here on Thursday, it will mark the introduction of a new chapter in Indo-Japanese relations.

“The new building is going to function as an Indo-Japanese cultural centre,” said Sanat Chattopadhyay, the Academy’s Secretary.

Named after Rabindranath Tagore and Okakura Tenshin, a Japanese scholar who contributed to the development and modernisation of Japanese art and aesthetics, the centre has been built at a cost of Rs. 4 crore.
