KEC, KCT enter semifinals

Coimbatore: Kongu Engineering College (Perundurai) and Kumaraguru College of Technology (Coimbatore) booked semifinal berths in the Anna University Zone-7 inter-collegiate hockey tournament here on Tuesday.

Park Engineering College and PSG College of Technology were the other two teams to make the grade.

The results (quarterfinals): Kongu EC bt CIT 2-0; KCT (Cbe) bt VLB Janakiammal 6-1; Park EC bt Tamil Nadu CE 3-1; PSG Tech bt Sri Ramakrishna IT (Pachapalayam) 5-0.

BUD blanks Dr. SNS

Bharathiar University Department (BUD) swamped Dr. SNS College of Arts and Science 6-0 in the Bharathiar University inter-collegiate football tournament for menhere on Tuesday.

The results At SRKV (A-Zone): GRD bt SNR Sons College 3-0; Bharathiar University Dept. bt Dr. SNS 6-0; CMS bt BU. CAS (Gudalur) 2-1.

At Bharathiar University (B-Zone): Maharaja Arts bt KSG College 4-0; Kovai Kalaimagal (Narasipuram) bt Parks College 2-0; RVS College (Sulur) bt Bishop Ambrose 4-1; GAC (Cbe) bt Ramalingam Sowdambiga 5-0. Hindustan CAS bt Maharaja Arts 2-1.

C-Zone: Sri Nehru Maha Vidyalaya bt Sri Krishna CAS 1-0; Rathinam College bt GAC (Udumalpet) 2-1; Nehru Arts bt CBM College 4-1; Karpagam Arts bt VLB CAS.

CDAA honours athletes

The Coimbatore Athletic Association (CDAA) felicitated the athletes, who did the district proud in the recently-concluded junior inter-district championship, at the Nehru Stadium here on Tuesday.

The athletes were sponsored by Aircel Prepaid Distributors — Kovai Communications & PP Agencies).

S.S. Biju (Profit Centre Head), Antony (Regional Sales Head) and Dennis (Prepaid Head) from Aircel Limited appreciated the efforts of the young participants.

Sourashtra College wins

Sourashtra College emerged winner in the Madurai Kamaraj University ‘B’ zone inter-collegiate cricket tournament defeating S. Vellaichamy Nadar College by seven wickets in the final at Madurai on Monday.

The scores: SVN College 107 in 20.4 overs (Manikanda Raja four for 28, Ranjith three for 23) lost to Sourashtra College 108 for three in 16.5 overs (Raghu 39).

Sundararajan triumphs

C. Sundararajan of Lakshmi School won the under-25 title in the State-level open chess tournament organised by Chanakya Chess Academy at Madurai on Sunday.
