Mumbai, U.P. to get Rs. 50 lakhs

Mumbai: Uttar Pradesh, which won the Ranji Trophy in 2005-06, and Mumbai (2006-07) will receive a cash prize of Rs. 50 lakhs, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Treasurer, N. Srivasan, announced here on Tuesday.

“The BCCI had promised to improve the prize structure of the domestic tournaments and we are increasing the prize money for the team after calculating the gross receipts in the last two years. The total prize money for the 2007-08 domestic tournaments would be Rs. 4.20 crores,” Srinivasan said.

As a result of the increase in revenue last year, players who had taken part in the senior tournaments in the 2006-07 season will receive Rs. 26,000 per day. This is likely to increase to Rs. 36,000 per day during the 2007-08 season.

Gross revenue

Srinivasan said that the BCCI’s gross revenue for the year 2006-07 is Rs. 652 crores. The projected revenue for the year 2007-08 is expected to be Rs. 862 crores.

He also said that the BCCI’s Platinum Jubilee Benevolent Scheme (monthly gratis) covers 850 players/ umpires (international and domestic) and the annual outflow is Rs. 15 crores.

The BCCI’s distribution for money for international players would be Rs. 43 crores for the 2006-07 season. This would go up to Rs. 55 crores for the 2007-08 season.

“It’s the same for the domestic players also because 13 per cent of the gross receipts is earmarked for international players and 13 per cent for domestic players,” Srinivasan said.

Resolution passed

Meanwhile, the resolution seeking to employ five selectors from September 2008 was passed, but with modifications.

The revised prize money for the BCCI’s tournaments with effect from 2005-06 season:

Ranji Trophy: Winner: Rs. 50 lakhs; Runner-up: Rs. 25 lakhs; Losing semifinalists: Rs. 10 lakhs each; Plate Group: Winner: Rs. 25 lakhs; Runner-up: Rs. 15 lakhs; Losing semifinalists: Rs. 7.5 lakhs each. Zal Irani Cup: Winner: Rs. 10 lakhs. Challenger Series: Winner: Rs. 15 lakhs; Runner-up: Rs. 10 lakhs. Duleep Trophy: Winner: Rs. 30 lakhs; Runner-up: Rs. 15 lakhs. Deodhar Trophy: Winner: R s. 20 lakhs; Runner-up: Rs. 10 lakhs. BCCI one-day limited over tournament (Vijay Hazare Trophy): Winner: Rs. 20 lakhs; Runner-up: Rs. 10 lakhs; Each zonal winner: Rs. 5 lakhs.
