Bagan prevails
KOLKATA: Mohun Bagan consolidated its lead by beating Peerless SC 3-2 in a Calcutta Football League premier division match at its home ground on Tuesday.
Bagan led 2-0 at half time as Peter Siddiqi found the target with a 26th minute header, while Brazilian Jose Barreto doubled the lead off a penalty couple of minutes before the break.
Peerless came back strongly after the break and equalised by scoring twice in a span of six minutes.
Nigerian striker Subair Ali reduced the margin in the 63rd minute before Kartik Kisku found the equaliser in the 69th minute.
Bagan’s centre-half Shanmugam Venkatesh turned the saviour with an 88th minute goal, which helped his side net full three points.
