NEW DELHI: Deep Sengupta scored his fifth straight victory in the Banyoles International Open chess to lead after five rounds in Banyoles, Spain, on Monday. IM Deep defeated joint overnight leader Sebastian Feller of France on the top board. Aswin Jayaram moved to four points after scoring over Dutchman Sander van Eijk. At Abu Dhabi, Koneru Humpy provided the only consolation for India in the ninth and final round of the Abu Dhabi Masters, upsetting top seeded Ukrainian Evgenij Miroschnichenko and finishing fifth after being tied for the third spot with 6.5 points with three others. Surya Shekhar Ganguly, M.R. Venkatesh, S. Kidambi and G.N. Gopal were the prominent Indian losers on the final day when S.P. Sethuraman scored over Russian GM Mikhail Ivanov. Egypt’s Bassem Amin took the title after being tied at seven points with Armenia’s Ashot Anastasian.
