Federer gets top billing

New York: Three-time defending champion Roger Federer was seeded No. 1 at the U.S. Open for the fourth consecutive year.

Justine Henin topped the women’s seedings.

Defending champion Maria Sharapova is seeded No. 2, followed by No. 3 Jelena Jankovic, No. 4 Svetlana Kuznetsova, and No. 5 Ana Ivanovic.

The U.S. Open followed the ATP and WTA rankings to determine the seedings for this year’s edition.

The draw will be held on Wednesday for the tournament which begins next Monday (Aug. 27). — AP
