Bills may replace 16 Ordinances

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Government is planning to introduce Bills to replace 16 Ordinances in the sixth session of the Assembly beginning on September 4.

Sources told The Hindu here on Wednesday that the special session, which would continue till September 20, would be mainly dedicated to conducting Government business. However, the Question Hour and submissions will also form part o f the session.

There were criticisms from various quarters against the repeated promulgation of several Ordinances by the State Government. According to reports some of the Ordinances had been reissued three or four times.

Various Departments, including Revenue, Home and Forest, are known to be planning to pilot Bills to replace Ordinances relating to their departments. These Ordinances were re-promulgated towards the end of July after the last session of the Assembly.

One of the Bills to be moved in the next session would be for replacing the Ordinance to enhance the strength of the State Agricultural Debt Relief Commission from five to seven.

Another Bill will be moved to replace the Ordinance amending the Revenue Recovery Act.
