KOTTAYAM: Congress Working Committee (CWC) member M.M. Jacob has stressed the need for reunion of all the Congressmen who had left the party. He was speaking to mediapersons at a meet-the-press programme here. Mr. Jacob said he would take the initiative in this regard. He would take up the issue of strengthening the party in Kerala with Union Minister for Defence A.K. Antony. He said Nationalist Congress Party leader K. Karunakaran and those close to him should return to strengthen the Congress. Mr. Jacob criticised the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Left for opposing the civilian nuclear agreement with the U.S. This would only help to strengthen the hands of China which was trying hard to create a China-centric Asia, he said. He alleged that the Left was opposing the agreement with a political agenda. The Left should give priority to Indian interests rather than Chinese interests, he said.
