This Day That Age
The selection of the site for the proposed higher technological institute in Madras has been finalised and the Government of Madras are now trying to acquire the private lands in this site and hand them over to the Union Government. The 465-acre site lies in the three villages of Kanagam, Taramani and Velacheri in Chingleput district and also in Raj Bhavan, Guindy. Two hundred acres are in private hands and have to be acquired by the State. If the construction of buildings, which is expected to be started next January, and other matters like obtaining equipment are completed early enough, the institute may begin functioning from the next academic year.
